Ben Shephard first met Harry Moseley in 2010 when Harry was just 11 years old and had just started fundraising by selling bracelets to raise money for Cancer research. Harry sadly lost his battle with Cancer on the 8 October 2011. Soon after, his mom Georgie wanted to continue his legacy and started Help Harry Help Others Charity, which Ben became one of the patrons and has since been a supportive ambassador to the charity.
Ben said, “I have been involved from the start, Harry changed my life, I was hosting an event in London, and there was this young boy doing the key notes speech. This young boy, came over to me and he introduced himself and his mom Georgie and I had the most amazing night listening to his stories and just chatting with him and his mom.”
“I really do mean that Harry changed my life, I still wear the actual bracelet that Harry made for me. He was the most extraordinary little boy, he cared more about what you had going on than himself. He raised over £750,000 on his own, by making and selling the bracelets. I do what I do with the charity now so that I can continue sharing his story and his legacy”.
Alison Hammond first captured the hearts of the nation in 2002 when she entered the Big Brother house. Since then, the Brummie girl has continued her rise to fame on ITV’s daytime TV shows.
Never losing her love for Birmingham, Alison is still living within the city with her son.
Another local charity that is very close to her heart is the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, as they looked after her young niece Jasmine when she had a heart attack at just 4 years old, and was eventually diagnosed with Kawasaki disease. Jasmine was in great hands at this hospital, and she was shortly put on a transplant list and continued to undergo a successful heart transplant. Since then, Alison has been an advocate for the hospital and it’s charity, raising awareness and supporting where she can.
Alison said “Supporting the Birmingham Walkathon is so close to my heart, raising money for the people in the city that I’m proud to call home, with some of the funds raised going to the charity that helped my niece Jasmine and so many other sick children, its just amazing. So, get signed up and show Brum your love!”
